Shin Buddhism is a practice of “no practice” in that there are a few traditional rituals that we participate in, such as chanting, offering incense, participating in readings & listening to Dharma messages, the main emphasis is teaching how to accept life’s bumps and challenges in a positive way. It is this way of learning how to understand our thoughts and actions that can help us navigate through daily life.
Dharma students, for children from 4 years old through high school, will learn about the items on the altar and their significance, the meaning of the beads we use, how to offer incense, a basic interpretation of the sutra chanting, and any other questions they have about things they see or experience during the service.
We celebrate, recognize & explain certain holidays and explain their meaning. These may include Buddha’s birth, our founder Shinran’s birth, spring and fall equinox, Buddha’s enlightenment and Obon, when we remember our ancestors.
