Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 7:00PM at the Alameda Theatre and Cineplex (2317 Central Ave, Alameda 94501) There will be a Q&A after the film with the Director and Writer. Flyers attached.

Ticket sales are now open. People can use the link below, or scan the QR code, located on the attached flyer to make their purchase. A small portion of ticket sales will be donated to Alameda Vipers and Alameda Youth Basketball.

The film covers the life on and off the court of Ashley Chea, a Cambodian American superstar, and one of the top D1 recruits in the nation, plays for Princeton. The film follows Ashley’s three-year journey through recruitment, CIF playoffs, and her ultimate college decision. We get an inside look at the close relationship between Ashley and Coach Jayme Kiyomura Chan, and view the complicated dynamics that exist between Ashley and her first-generation parents. The film touches upon the history of Japanese American basketball leagues, established in the 1930s, and how the relationship between sports and community have paved the way for young Asian basketball stars such as Ashley.

Immediately following the screening, we will be treated to a special Q&A with Director/Producer Erica Tanamachi and Writer/Editor Jean Kawahara.
